Mining hazards considers the long and varied legacy of underground extraction of minerals in Great Britain. Previous research has defined the spatial extent of non-coal mining and now the BGS isinvestigating the 'zone of influence' around areas of underground mining.
Shale gas is natural gas that is trapped within shale formations. Our role is to supply industry, government and the public with impartial geological and environmental advice in regards to shale gas in the UK.
We are researching groundwater extremes, the impacts of environmental and climate change on groundwater in the UK and internationally, and what this means for building a more resilient future for our water resources.
