Science Advisory Committee

About BGS

The BGS Science Advisory Committee was recruited under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the BGS signed with NERC following the creation of the BGS Board.

Following an open competition in 2018, the composition of the committee is:

  • Prof Frances Wall (committee chair): professor of applied mineralogy, Camborne School of Mines
  • Dr Patrick Bermingham: former exploration chief geophysicist, Shell International
  • Prof Mike Bradshaw: professor of global energy, Warwick Business School
  • Joanna Coleman: UK energy transition manager, Shell
  • Dr Andy Croxford: head of EU exit and environmental strategy, Environment Agency
  • Dr Liz Fellman: director of strategy, planning and communications, Science and Technologies Facilities Council
  • Prof Mercedes Maroto-Valer: assistant deputy principal, Research and Innovation, Heriot-Watt University
  • Prof Stephen de Mora: former chief executive, Plymouth Marine Laboratory
  • Prof Cherry Tweed: chief scientific advisor, Radioactive Waste Management Ltd
