Example ready-made project and layer files are provided to make it easy to use 1:50 000 scale (street level) geology WMS data via desktop GIS.

Please note: when using these downloads the data is visible when zoomed in between 1:75 000 and 1:10 000 scale.

ArcGIS mxd file combining the BGS 1:50 000 scale geology data service with ArcGIS Online imagery and streetmap services. The data is presented here using the Lat/Long WGS84 coordinate system. This file was kindly provided by ESRI. An mxd file in British National Grid DigMapGB-50_BNG.mxd is also provided.

ArcGIS layer file to enable our 1:50 000 scale geology service to be quickly added to an existing mxd file without the need to manually add a server connection or set a cordinate system projection and transformation. The data is presented here using the Lat/Long WGS84 coordinate system.

MapInfo software downloads

Users of MapInfo v 7.5 and above can easily access our 1:50 000 scale geology service by extracting the workspace and tab files by downloading DigMapGB-50_for_MapInfo.zip.

Opening the workspace file will present all the geology data layers and build three maps, one centred on London Bridge, one on Edinburgh's Arthurs Seat and one on Cardiff's docklands. Alternatively, you can open the tab files for each data layer individually.

KML files for Google Earth

Google Earth users can visualise easily our 1:50 000 scale geology service using DigMapGB-50_GE KML file.
