Riccardo is a marine geoscientist specialised in geological mapping and geomatics. His research focuses on the seabed geomorphology of continental shelves and the interpretation of the sparse geological evidence preserved on the seafloor to reconstruct ancient landscapes and processes, and their impact on offshore infrastructure and modern habitat. He is also interested in semi-automated and machine learning approaches for geological mapping.  His broader background includes petrology, sediment geochemistry and provenance studies, providing a strong foundation for interpreting geological processes across a range of spatial and temporal scales.
