Coastal safety: rockfall

There are blocks at the top of the pile of rubble that have grass on the top and are still generally intact.  The grass shows that these have fallen from the top of the cliff recently. These will fall apart as the sea erodes the debris and more rockfalls may happen.

The sea has started to remove the landslide debris.  This pile of rocks is not stable and may move as the front gets ‘eaten away’ by the sea.

The people hunting for fossils in the rockfall debris which is also directly underneath an unsupported block.  How do they know it won’t fall?  Rockfalls can happen without warning.
