Lithological Description: |
The term Skerry Group was introduced by Ritchie et al. (1996) for a succession of Lower Jurassic shallow marine deposits within the North Rona Basin that lie below the Humber Group. The Skerry Group comprises the Stack Skerry and Sule Skerry formations. |
Definition of Lower Boundary: |
The base of the group has not been penetrated. |
Definition of Upper Boundary: |
none recorded or not applicable
|
Thickness: |
The Skerry Group attains a maximum, unbottomed, drilled thickness of 770 m within the North Rona Basin. |
Geographical Limits: |
The distribution of the Skerry Group appears very restricted within the west of Shetland area although it may be present at depth within the Faeroe-Shetland Basin and to the south of the study area in the North Lewis and North Minch basins (Stoker et al., 1993). |
