Lithological Description: Clay, oolitic; thin limestone beds or concretions. In the southern part of the outcrop, sand is only a minor component; in the north, sandy clay is common, and beds of fine-grained sand occur.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Rests with a sharp junction on the Sturminster Pisolite.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Passes up into micritic oolitic limestones of the Todber Freestone.
Thickness: 0 - 15m: (12.24m in the East Stour Borehole - ST82SW/9; 6.7m at the type locality; 3.65m in the Sturminster railway cutting).
Geographical Limits: Across the whole of the Shaftesbury Sheet (313) and the southern part of the Wincanton Sheet (297).
