Lithological Description: Sand, gravel and diamicton of northern origin (known only from boreholes).
Definition of Lower Boundary: Unconformably overlies a bedrock platform at between 41 and 53m below OD and partly overlies the Ayre Formation. At the type section of the Kindroughad Formation, it overlies coarse grained gravel and clay of the Ayre Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Base of the Shellag Formation. At the type section of the Kindroughad Formation, the base of the Shellag Formation comprises a clayey diamicton with cobbles.
Thickness: c.60m at its type section.
Geographical Limits: Northern part of the Isle of Man (50k Sheets 36 and possibly 46).
Parent Unit: Irish Sea Coast (Albion) Glacigenic Subgroup (ISCAG)
