Age range: Mid Pleistocene (QPM) — Late Pleistocene (QPL)
Lithological Description: Sand, gravel and diamicton (till) of lithologies derived from the north of the Isle of Man (Chadwick et al., 2001).
Definition of Lower Boundary: Unconformably overlies a bedrock platform at between 41 and 53 m below OD and partly overlies the Ayre Formation. At the type section of the Kiondroughad Formation, it overlies coarse grained gravel and clay of the Ayre Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Base of the Shellag Formation. At the type section of the Kiondroughad Formation, the base of the Shellag Formation comprises a clayey diamicton with cobbles.
Thickness: About 60 m at its type section.
Geographical Limits: Isle of Man (50k Sheets E36, 45, 46, and 56).
Parent Unit: Irish Sea Coast (Albion) Glacigenic Subgroup (ISCAG)
