Lithological Description: Grey micaceous shaly mudstones in lower part. Black, locally calcareous and phosphatic mudstones in upper part.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Passage from underlying Moor Wood Formation marked by incoming of silty micaceous laminae and thin sandstone beds.
Definition of Upper Boundary: At the upper limit of a transition zone of alternating black and greenish grey mudstones, into overlying, predominantly black, Merevale Shales.
Thickness: 75 to 80m in general. 38m minimum in Merevale No.2 Borehole. 82m minimum in Merevale No.1 Borehole.
Geographical Limits: From the area west of Mancetter Quarry, extending northwestwards to just north of Merevale Hall (3072 9490 - 2954 9765).
