Author statement Original geological survey at 1:63 360 scale by H.W. Bristow and J. Trimmer, published on Old Series Sheet 15 in 1856. Survey at the 1:10 560 scale in 1896 to 1900 by C. Reid on the Palaeogene strata and F.J. Bennett on the Chalk, together with additions by E.E.L. Dixon, and published with Drift in 1902. Sheet 314 was reprinted at the 1:50 000 scale in 1976 without geological revision. Resurveyed at the 1:10 000 scale by C.M. Barton, A.J. Newell, C.R. Bristow, K.R. Royse, E.C. Freshney, R.A. Edwards and B.J. Williams in 1975 to 1977, 1983 to 1989, and 1997 to 2000. Seismic interpretation by M.S. Brook, C.J. Vincent, G.A. Kirby and D.J. Evans. P.J. Strange, Regional Geologist.
