After sampling material from the BGS Core Store within the National Geological Repository, you are required to deposit all raw data and interpretative reports relating to the sample with BGS.
Your data should be deposited via the NGDC Data Deposit Application.
- Choose the data source: this should be ‘Core sample analysis’
- Add the loan number in the field ‘NGR Core Store Loan Number’
- Fill in ‘Data Title’, ‘Data Description’ and ‘Keywords’
- Add all relevant ‘Boreholes/Wells’ to the ‘Geographic Location’ field
- Select the appropriate restrictions:
- open access data donations are encouraged
- raw data can be kept under embargo for two years from the date of visit (on request)
- interpretative data can be kept under embargo for five years from the date of visit (on request)
- Upload the data with all relevant SSKs (Core Store reference number)
If your deposit does not contain a loan number and list of SSKs, it will be rejected and you will not have satisfied the terms of your visit agreement.
Data quality: mandatory requirements
The data you upload must conform to the following data quality requirements.
- All abbreviations are explained
- All borehole or well names are included and in full
- All borehole or well depths and depth units are included
- Data contains all parameter value names and units
- Data is in an acceptable, machine-readable format
- Relevant SSK numbers contained within the report
- If appropriate, provide a separate report containing the analysis methodology
- If your data contains results for material not sourced from BGS, inform us at the time of deposit
If your deposit does not meet the above requirements it will be rejected and you will not have satisfied the terms of your visit agreement
