Over a 15-year timeframe (2015\u20132030), the SDGs aim to eradicate global poverty, end unsustainable consumption patterns, and facilitate sustained and inclusive economic growth, social development and environmental protection.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure  class=\"img-wrap\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/sdg_workshop.jpg\" data-toggle=\"lightbox\" data-footer=\"&lt;p&gt;Sustainable Development Goals workshop. Goals with a geological component include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>zero hunger (SDG2)<\/li><li>good health and wellbeing (SDG3)<\/li><li>clean water and sanitation (SDG)<\/li><li>affordable and clean energy (SDG7)<\/li><li>economic growth (SDG8)<\/li><li>infrastructure (SDG9)<\/li><li>sustainable cities (SDG11)<\/li><li>responsible consumption and production (SDG12)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Three two-day stakeholder workshops (held in Kenya, Zambia and Tanzania) have drawn together representatives from five Eastern African countries to determine how geological science can help support sustainable-development priorities in the region.
