It will construct an integrated and harmonised European volcanological community able to fully support, exploit and build upon existing and emerging national and pan-European research infrastructures, including e-Infrastructures of the European Supersite volcanoes. The harmonisation includes linking scientists and stakeholders and connecting still-isolated volcanological infrastructures located at in situ volcano observatories (VO) and volcanological research institutions (VRIs).<\/p>\n\n\n<figure  class=\"img-wrap\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/EUROVOLC.jpg\" data-toggle=\"lightbox\" data-footer=\"\" data-gallery=\"gallery_54463\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/EUROVOLC-150x150.jpg\" class=\"lazy-blur\" alt=\"EUROVOLC\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/EUROVOLC.jpg\" \/><\/a><div class=\"expand-box\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/EUROVOLC.jpg\" data-toggle=\"lightbox\" data-footer=\"\" data-gallery=\"gallery_54463\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/wp-content\/themes\/bgs\/img\/expand.svg\" alt=\"Expand icon\"><\/a><\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>For this purpose, EUROVOLC will carry out <a href=\"https:\/\/eurovolc.eu\/?page_id=121\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">networking<\/a> and j<a href=\"https:\/\/eurovolc.eu\/?page_id=123\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">oint research<\/a> activities, and offer <a href=\"https:\/\/eurovolc.eu\/?page_id=125\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transnational and virtual access<\/a> to the main European volcano observatories and volcano research infrastructures. These activities will address four broad transversal themes of particular interest to the overall earth science community: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/eurovolc.eu\/?page_id=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">community building<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/eurovolc.eu\/?page_id=52\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">volcano\u2013atmosphere interaction<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/eurovolc.eu\/?page_id=23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subsurface processes<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/eurovolc.eu\/?page_id=25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">volcanic crisis preparedness and risk management<\/a> <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The BGS is a full partner of the EUROVOLC project. Our team of nine scientists and specialists from the volcanology and seismology teams contribute to this project through active participation in eight work packages.&nbsp;We lead the work package on transdisciplinary collaboration to support the management of volcanic risk and research on eruption source parameters and requirements for numerical models for improved ash-dispersal modelling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We contribute to a variety of activities including: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>pre-eruptive unrest detection<\/li><li>hazard and risk tools<\/li><li>a European volcano-status monitoring system<\/li><li>training <\/li><li>project outreach<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/eurovolc.eu\/?page_id=81\" target=\"_blank\">EUROVOLC consortium<\/a> includes volcano observatories (VOs) in Europe responsible for the surveillance of volcanoes and for providing advice on their activity in Italy, Iceland, Portugal (the Azores), Greece (volcanic islands) and France (overseas territories), as well as additional partners responsible for providing advice to authorities on volcanic risk and hazard.
