Information on the composition of these materials helps us to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>understand geological processes<\/li><li>manage and sustainably develop our natural resources, including critical minerals, land, soil, water, agricultural and ecosystem assets<\/li><li>protect our environment through monitoring pollution and environmental change<\/li><li>underpin scientific studies into possible impacts of environmental factors on human and ecosystem health<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Geochemistry at the BGS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the 1960s, the BGS has amassed considerable geochemical data holdings and developed significant expertise in applied geochemistry, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>design and implementation of geochemical studies<\/li><li>sample laboratory analysis<\/li><li>management, presentation and interpretation of geochemical data<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on this expertise, we have played a leading role in the development of geochemistry study methods both in the UK and internationally.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\t\t<section id=\"in-this-section-8308-block_5f0f5249e6d83\" class=\"grid-section research<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"row grid-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-md-6 col-lg-4\">\n\t<div class=\"cards-over-img cards
