BGS \u00a9 UKRI.&lt;\/p&gt;\n\" data-gallery=\"gallery_29517\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/wp-content\/themes\/bgs\/img\/expand.svg\" alt=\"Expand icon\"><\/a><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>GSNI is based at Dundonald House on the Stormont Estate, Belfast, where it runs an enquiry service and shop; it also manages a national core store and sample repository at Duncrue Industrial Estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GSNI scientists provide data, information and advice to support the legislative responsibilities and strategic priorities of DfE, other NI government departments and local councils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GSNI also collaborates on geoscience research with the BGS, the Geological Survey of Ireland and over 35 universities globally. GSNI actively engages and works with all parts of civic society, including central and local government, industry, academia, community organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), schools and the general public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GSNI\u2019s datasets are available on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.opendatani.gov.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Open Data NI<\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spatialni.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spatial NI<\/a>. GSNI also hosts information on geology, engineering geology, minerals, borehole data and site records, mines, quarries and pits, airborne geophysics, soils and water geochemistry on <a href=\"http:\/\/mapapps2.bgs.ac.uk\/GSNI_Geoindex\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GeoIndex<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our research<\/h3>\n\n\n<div  class=\"accordions\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"acc-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"acc-top secondary-background icon-arrow button no-btn\"><span class=\"button-content\" tabindex=\"-1\">Governance and administration<\/span><\/button>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"acc-body sea-background-e\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The director, supported by GSNI\u2019s senior leadership team and two business assistants, is responsible for the governance and administration of GSNI, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>financial monitoring and reporting on the delivery of GSNI\u2019s work programmes<\/li>\n<li>the strategic development of the organisation in consultation with GSNI\u2019s Science Advisory Committee and its stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>leadership, communication and supporting the continued professional development of GSNI staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For more information please contact the <a href=\"mailto:gsni@bgs.ac.uk\">GSNI office<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div><div  class=\"accordions\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"acc-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"acc-top secondary-background icon-arrow button no-btn\"><span class=\"button-content\" tabindex=\"-1\">Energy, minerals and waste<\/span><\/button>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"acc-body sea-background-e\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The energy, minerals and waste (EMW) team provides advice and support to DfE on resources and energy-related issues, including oil and gas exploration, geothermal energy and underground energy storage. The EMW team also provides geoscientific advice and support on the economic development of natural resources and assists the minerals branch of DfE with minerals licensing.
