It is estimated that GI data is worth \u00a31.2\u00a0billion per year to the UK economy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Common Ground project aims to enhance the value of GI data for the UK construction and environmental sectors. BGS \u00a9 UKRI.&lt;\/p&gt;\n\" data-gallery=\"gallery_62895\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/wp-content\/themes\/bgs\/img\/expand.svg\" alt=\"Expand icon\"><\/a><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\n\n<p>The team will:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>undertake a valuation exercise to better quantify the economic, social and environmental benefits of capturing, using, sharing and re-purposing GI data, using the Geospatial Commission\u2019s established&nbsp;framework&nbsp;for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/measuring-the-economic-social-and-environmental-value-of-public-sector-location-data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">measuring the value of location data<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>explore, through targeted market analysis, ways in which GI data held by BGS could be more usefully presented and delivered to unlock further value&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Common Ground Project is a one-year initiative funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/government-office-for-technology-transfer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Government Office for Technology Transfer<\/a> (part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)).
