Laura Burrel is a geologist with a background on orogenic processes, salt tectonics and the evolution of sedimentary basins. Her early career research involved the study of tectonics and sedimentation in the Southern Pyrenees during the Mesozoic rifting and subsequent orogenic inversion. Since joining BGS, Laura has been involved in mapping and modelling projects in the sedimentary basins of the UK, aimed at improving the understanding and characterisation of the structure affecting principal aquifers (Chalk, Fell Sandstone, Middle Jurassic Oolites) and other key stratigraphic units (Upper Jurassic clays).
