You must not disclose it to any third party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have the right to disable any user identification code or password, whether chosen by you or allocated by us, at any time, if in our reasonable opinion you have failed to comply with any of the provisions of these terms of use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you know or suspect that anyone other than you knows your user identification code or password, you must promptly notify us at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:enquiries@bgs.ac.uk\">enquiries@bgs.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Crowd sourcing and citizen science<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you engage with our crowd sourcing or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/geology-projects\/citizen-science\/\">citizen science<\/a>&nbsp;projects by uploading and depositing photos or other materials to crowd sourcing or citizen science projects, you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>do so on the understanding they may be used by us and third parties<\/li><li>shall be responsible for ensuring that all photos and other materials being uploaded or deposited are owned by you (or you have all necessary permissions to upload or deposit them)<\/li><li>understand that liability regarding use of anything you upload or deposit may lie with you as uploader or depositor<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have doubts about ownership, check first before making a deposit on our citizen science or crowd sourcing sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our citizen science initiatives operate under a range of user licences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/3.0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported License<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalarchives.gov.uk\/doc\/open-government-licence\/version\/3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Open Government Licence<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interactive services<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We may from time to time provide interactive services on our site, including, without limitation, social media channels, chat rooms and bulletin boards (&#8216;interactive services&#8217;). Examples of these are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"http:\/\/earthwise.bgs.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Earthwise<\/a><\/li><li>Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Where we do provide any interactive service, we will provide clear information to you about the kind of service offered, if it is moderated and what form of moderation is used (including whether it is human or technical).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will do our best to assess any possible risks for users (and in particular, for children) from third parties when they use any interactive service provided on our site, and we will decide in each case whether it is appropriate to use moderation of the relevant service (including what kind of moderation to use) in the light of those risks. However, we are under no obligation to oversee, monitor or moderate any interactive service we provide on our site, and we expressly exclude our liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of any interactive service by a user in contravention of our content standards, whether the service is moderated or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of any of our interactive services by a minor is subject to the consent of their parent or guardian. Those works are protected by copyright laws and treaties around the world. All such rights are reserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may print off one copy, and may download extracts, of any page(s) from our site for your personal use and you may draw the attention of others within your organisation to content posted on our site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must not modify the paper or digital copies of any materials you have printed off or downloaded in any way, and you must not use any illustrations, photographs, video or audio sequences or any graphics separately from any accompanying text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our status (and that of any identified contributors) as the authors of content on our site must always be acknowledged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must not use any part of the content on our site for commercial purposes without obtaining a licence to do so from us or our licensors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you print off, copy or download any part of our site in breach of these terms of use, your right to use our site will cease immediately and you must, at our option, return or destroy any copies of the materials you have made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open Government Licence (OpenGeoscience)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Notwithstanding the above clause on intellectual property rights, we have a wide range of datasets and want to increase access to these by publishing as many as possible under OpenGeoscience. OpenGeoscience is a free service where you can view maps, download data, scans, photos and other information. Examples of the services available under Open Geoscience include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>view geology data through the Geology of Britain map window and as WMS<\/li><li>access to over a million borehole scans<\/li><li>search and download photos from the GeoScenic geological photo archive<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To encourage the use and re-use of this data we have wherever possible made the data within OpenGeoscience available under the Open Government Licence, subject to the following acknowledgement accompanying the reproduced BGS materials: &#8220;Contains British Geological Survey materials \u00a9NERC [year]&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ordnance Survey maps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Grid and other Ordnance Survey data used on this our site appear with the permission of The Controller of Her Majesty&#8217;s Stationery Office; Crown Copyright and database rights 2016; Ordnance Survey Licence No. 100021290 EUL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">No reliance on information<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The content on our site is provided for general information only. It is not intended to amount to advice on which you should rely.
