All data deposits are subject to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/download\/ngdc-terms-and-conditions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NGDC terms and conditions<\/a>&nbsp;of deposit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We recommended that you review the\u202fdeposit guidance below before you begin this process.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NGDC digital data deposit application<\/h2>\n\n\n            <div class=\"btn-wrap\">\n                <a href=\"http:\/\/transfer.bgs.ac.uk\/ingestion\"  class=\"button mx-0 primary-background button btn-icon-Arrow-right-white before \">Deposit data<\/a>            <\/div>\n\t\t\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Digital data&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/transfer.bgs.ac.uk\/ingestion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NGDC Data Deposit Application<\/a>&nbsp;enables you to deposit digital data with the NGDC online. This provides the method of deposit for:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>UK drillers and contractors depositing borehole data to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/drilling-legislation-and-obligations\">fulfil statutory obligations under UK legislation<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NERC grant-funded researchers to deposit data in compliance with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/nerc-grant-funded-researchers\">NERC data policy<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>depositors wishing to generate a data&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/citing-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">digital object identifier<\/a> (DOI)&nbsp;for their datasets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>physical samples and specimens&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>all other voluntary data deposits&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For full information on depositing physical material including core, samples or specimens to NGDC, visit the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/geological-data\/national-geological-repository\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Geological Repository<\/a> (NGR) web pages.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Core sample analysis data&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have sampled any material from the BGS Core Store within NGR, you are required to deposit all raw data and interpretative reports relating to the sample(s) to BGS. Full guidance for fulfilling this mandatory requirement can be found on our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/support-and-guidance\/depositing-sample-analysis-data\/\">depositing sample analysis data page<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deposit guidance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When considering your data deposit, it is advised you review your dataset against the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/download\/ngdc-data-value-checklist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NGDC data value checklist<\/a>&nbsp;to ensure the inclusion of data of long-term scientific value in your deposit.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NGDC also provides&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/good-data-guidelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">good data guidance<\/a>&nbsp;for organising and naming your data files, as well as a list of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/preferred-digital-formats\">preferred data formats<\/a>&nbsp;for your data deposit, with specific guidance for depositing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/ags-data-format\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AGS data formats<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/ngdc\/model-data-management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">model code<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When packaging up your data to deposit it with the NGDC, you should consider the following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your data should be grouped appropriately with a common geographical location or science-specific topic, such as \u2018Two site investigations for Smith Street\u2019 or \u2018A chemical analysis spreadsheet of limestone\u2019 \u2014 this may result in you needing to split the data into several separate donations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A donation may contain datasets that underpin publications. In these cases,  NGDC is interested in holding the data rather than the associated paper(s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only one data-access type (either open or restricted) can be applied to an entire donation. If your donation contains both open and restricted data, you will need to split your data into sections and donate each section separately, otherwise the open portion of your data will not be visible to our open web systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We can build bespoke portals to deliver your own organisation\u2019s restricted donated data alongside NGDC\u2019s openly available datasets.
