This volume contains mineral production statistics for the five-year period from 2019 to 2023 for more than 70 mineral commodities, by country worldwide. Additional tables containing European production of aggregates and cement are included as an appendix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">World Mineral Production Survey 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minerals area at BGS are very interested to find out who is currently downloading our minerals data or World Mineral Production publication and what commodities you are particularly interested in. We would also like to find out how you would like our data to be presented to you in the future. The information contained in the dataset and associated publications is compiled from a wide range of sources:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>home and overseas government departments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>national statistical offices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>specialist commodity authorities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>company reports<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a network of contacts throughout the world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The database compilers aim for integrity and accuracy in the data and, for quality control purposes, participate in international specialist groups and maintain close links with other mineral statistics providers in Europe and North America. The data provides essential mineral intelligence for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>security of supply issues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>economic analyses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>environmental issues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sustainable development planning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>regulation and policy issues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>commercial strategic planning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The data are available in the following formats:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the World Mineral Production annual publication and its predecessors, which can be downloaded from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/mineralsuk\/statistics\/world-mineral-statistics\/world-mineral-statistics-archive\/\">world archive<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MS Excel &amp; JSON for years 1970 via our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/mineralsuk\/statistics\/world-mineral-statistics\/world-mineral-statistics-data-download\/\">data download tool and API<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Selected editions are available to purchase in hard copy from the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/shop.bgs.ac.uk\/Bookshop\/subcategory.cfm?SERIES_ID=M1300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BGS online shop<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One off reports such as those shown lower down this page, available for download in pdf<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n        <div class=\"js-anchor-link-wrap anchor-link-wrap\" id=\"centenary\"><span class=\"sr-only js-anchor-link\">Centenary Edition<\/span><\/div>\n        \n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>World Mineral Production 2008 to 2012 Centenary Edition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Released in 2014, this volume was called the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/nora.nerc.ac.uk\/id\/eprint\/507092\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centenary Edition<\/a>&#8216; because the World Mineral Statistics dataset that underpins this publication is continuous from 1913 to the present day. It contains mineral production data by commodity and country for each of those years. The dataset also contains import and export data for a large number of the commodities for the majority of the last century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although there have been many changes over the past century, some of which are described within the Centenary Edition, the rationale for collating, analysing and publishing these statistics has remained similar throughout: &#8216;to present as comprehensively and accurately as possible factual data about the world mineral industry&#8217;s activities, which are essentially the end-product of geology and a measure of the unceasing contribution of the geological sciences to man&#8217;s material welfare and progress&#8217; (Preface to the 1977 edition of World Mineral Statistics).<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t<blockquote id=\"quote-2965-block_a7cf14b14e4294285f064f795d395aae\" class=\"quote  \" >\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"quote-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/mineralsuk\/wp-content\/themes\/bgs\/img\/quote-caption.svg\" alt=\"Speech marks icon\">\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"quote-text\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Resources of most minerals are sufficient to meet demand for the foreseeable future but the uncertainties that surround the geographic patterns of production and trade make the availability of reliable statistics an essential tool for the analysis of activity in this sector.<\/p>\n<p>(Preface to the 1995 edition of World Mineral Statistics).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t\n\n\n<p>The process of collection, management and delivery of data has evolved and been refined in response to the changing global political, economic, technological and social conditions but these statements remain true today. This report aims to present production and trade data for each of the four countries between 1999 and 2008, relating to the majority of economically important mineral commodities. It provides some analysis of the 10-year trends and includes a synopsis of the main physiographic, geological and demographic features of each country.
