Lithological Description: Sandstone, medium- to coarse-grained in thick to massive sharp-based beds with shaly partings - turbidite facies.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Plane above the Tumulites pseudobilinguis Marine Band in Bowland Shale Formation where sandstone of the Hind Sandstone rests sharply upon dark grey mudstone of the Bowland Shale Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Plane below the Cravenoceras malhamense Marine Band where sequence changes gradationally from being predominantly sandstone to being predominantly mudstone of the Bowland Shale Formation.
Thickness: 7m at Hind Clough (probable maximum thickness), 1.7 at Blue Scar, 1.27m at the Trough of Bowland.
Geographical Limits: Not identified outside Bowland Fells area, except at Dinkley where exposed in River Ribble section.
