Lithological Description: The formation includes a complex, commonly thinly interbedded sequence of sands, gravels, silt clays, pebbly clay diamictons and stony sandy clay diamictons (tills) containing clasts from Scotland and the northern Irish Sea basin and the west Cumbrian coalfield, as well as from the western Lake District.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Generally undulating erosional contact on to older sequences including the Ravenglass Till Member of the Seascale Glacigenic Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Generally the land surface, but locally the base of the Holocene Hall Carleton, Drigg Point Sand and Ehen Alluvial formations.
Thickness: Typically 10 to 20m
Geographical Limits: 1:50k Sheet 37 Gosforth. Seascale, Ravenglass and Lower Wasdale areas, western Cumbria.
