Lithological Description: Semipelite, mainly gneissose but locally schistose, dominantly biotite- (but subsidiary muscovite-garnet-) bearing, with local lenses of micaceous psammite.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Top of the Feshiebridge Psammite Formation (Etteridge Lodge Psammite and Pelite Formation), where interbedded psammite and subordinate semipelite and pelite is overlain by predominantly gneissose biotite-rich semipelite of the Falls of Phones Semipelite Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Base of the Gaick Psammite Formation, where predominantly quartzose and feldspathic psammites overlie the predominantly gneissose biotite-rich semipelite of the Falls of Phones Semipelite Formation
Thickness: c.100m
Geographical Limits: Southeast of the Ericht-Laidon Fault, south of Newtonmore, extending from Crubenmore to Phones Lodge on Sheet 64W.
