Lithological Description: Semipelite and pelite, schistose to gneissose and locally kyanite-rich, containing calc-silicate rock and metalimestone units. Cut by abundant amphibolite sheets.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Sharp base at the marked quartzite-pelite / semipelite boundary at the top of the Kinlochlaggan Quartzite Formation. Alternatively lies above the Kinlochlaggan 'Boulder Bed'.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Not seen ie. this is the youngest unit exposed in the major Kinlochlaggan syncline.
Thickness: Not known, but at least 200m
Geographical Limits: Ardverikie Forest between Aonach Beag [NN 455 740] and the River Spey at [NN 933 571], sheet 63E [Dalwhinnie].
