Lithological Description: Mudstone, silty, reddish brown with common veins of satin spar gypsum and indurated beds of reddish brown or greenish grey siltstone and very fine-grained sandstone, dolomitic.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Conformable, at gradational upward passage from reddish-brown mudstone of the underlying Sidmouth Mudstone Formation (undivided) to the more strongly indurated, silty gypsiferous mudstone of the Clarborough Member.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Conformable, at gradational upward passage from the more strongly indurated, silty gypsiferous mudstone of the Clarborough Member to the reddish-brown mudstone of the overlying Sidmouth Mudstone Formation (undivided)
Thickness: 3 to 12 m.
Geographical Limits: Surface outcrop limited to north Nottinghamshire, East Retford area.
Parent Unit: Sidmouth Mudstone Formation (SIM)
