Lithological Description: A poorly sorted, matrix supported, typically well bedded (planar) conglomerate with coarse clasts which are commonly sub-angular to angular.
Definition of Lower Boundary: A sharp contact with fine- to medium-grained lithic sandstones of the (undivided) Ruchill Flagstone Formation, but near Gartmore, the Conglomerate is underlain by a red silty mudstone.
Definition of Upper Boundary: A gradational contact with an overlying reddish grey, coarse- to fine-grained, locally pebbly, and commonly massive sandstone, of the undivided Ruchill Flagstone Formation.
Thickness: Up to 150 m thick at Callander, 50m at Beinn Liath [NN 578 040], and 2 m near Gartmore.
Geographical Limits: The north-west limb of the Strathmore Syncline, from Kelty Water near Corrie, to Meall Leathan Dhail, and possibly to Auchnashelloch Hill (although disputed by Francis, E H et al, 1970).
