Lithological Description: Mainly purple siltstones and sandstones, commonly laminated and moderately flaggy. Well-marked bedding and higher proportion of silt than in the underlying Bayston - Oakwood Formation.
Definition of Lower Boundary: At the base of the Bridges Formation flaggy siltstones rest conformably upon massive sandstones of the Bayston-Oakswood Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Drawn where flaggy siltstone of the Bridges Formation is unconformably overlain by brown sandstones and conglomerates of the Hoar Edge Grit (Caradoc).
Thickness: Averages c.900 m.
Geographical Limits: Church Stretton and Linley areas, Shropshire.
