These forecasts are underpinned by a national network of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/technologies\/software\/aquimod\/\">BGS AquiMod groundwater models<\/a>&nbsp;that continues to be developed and expanded through applied research and commercial projects in collaboration with our stakeholders. BGS produces groundwater level forecasts for 48 different locations across the UK\u2019s principal aquifers, the results from which are incorporated in the&nbsp;Hydrological Outlook UK website&nbsp;on a monthly basis. The sites are currently mainly located on the major aquifers of England, with a lower density of sites in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The models are driven using seasonal weather forecasts produced by the UK Met Office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We produce the Hydrological Outlook in partnership with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.infrastructure-ni.gov.uk\/topics\/rivers-and-flooding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department for Infrastructure<\/a>, Northern Ireland<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/environment-agency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Environment Agency<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/naturalresourceswales.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Natural Resources Wales<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepa.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scottish Environment Protection Agency<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ceh.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UK Met Office<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Groundwater flood forecasting service<\/h2>\n\n\n<figure  class=\"img-wrap\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/groundwater\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/10\/P895171-1.jpg\" data-toggle=\"lightbox\" data-footer=\"&lt;p&gt;Groundwater flooding east of North Stoke, Oxfordshire, in 2014. BGS \u00a9 UKRI.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"expand-box expand-box-top\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/groundwater\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/10\/P895171-1.jpg\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgs.ac.uk\/groundwater\/wp-content\/themes\/bgs\/img\/expand.svg\" alt=\"Expand icon\"><\/a><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We deliver a daily groundwater flood forecasting service to the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ffc-environment-agency.metoffice.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flood Forecasting Centre<\/a> (FFC)&nbsp;for over 50 locations in England (principally in the Chalk and Jurassic limestones).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The forecasts are updated on a daily basis using a combination of numerical weather prediction and climatological forecasts to deliver probabilistic estimates of groundwater flood risk up to 30 days into the future.
