Author statement Original geological survey at 1:63 360 scale by H W Bristow, published on Old Series sheets 15 and 16, respectively in 1856 and 1855, and sheets 17 and 18 in 1850. Revised editions of sheets 17 and 18 published in 1855 and 1875. Resurvey at the 1:10 560 scale by C. Reid between 1894 and 1898. A small tract in the north-west surveyed by A.J. Jukes-Browne between 1890 and 1893, and in the south-west by A. Stahan in 1889. 1:63 360 scale, hand coloured map, with Drift, published in 1898. A colour printed edition issued in 1904. Gault outcrop in the north, together with some drift deposits, added by J.G.O. Smart in 1952 and a revised map published in 1958; reprinted without geological revision at the 1:50 000 scale in 1973, and reconstituted on to 1st Series 1:50 000 base in 1981. Resurveyed at the 1:10 000 scale by C.R. Bristow, R.K. Westhead, C.M. Barton and E.C. Freshney between 1985 and 1996. Seismic interpretation by D.J. Evans and G.A. Kirby. R.W. Gallois, P.M. Allen and I.R. Basham, Regional Geologists.
