Horizon scanning is a key tool in futures thinking that assists:

  • Reviewing a broad spectrum of information, beyond usual timescales and sources. Use reading material and other media as sources of insights for the group.
  • Drawing insights from participants
  • Identifying future challenges and trends

This approach works well with a large groups of participants — and more participants encourage greater diversity. It does, however, rely on Initial identification the topic(s) and question to address, and what criteria are important.
