Every day I listen to scientists talk about everything from microscopic fossils to geology on mars and I love it. It’s my job to share their research, plans, discoveries and adventures. I do this through various means but my favourites are managing our blog , writing press releases , using facebook , twitter and organising events at science festivals up and down the country.
Even though this amazing Communications role keeps me busy I must confess it’s not my first or even second love. These are geology and maps. To get a job from University, after studying long and hard for a Geology degree, to train as a cartographer for the BGS was a dream come true. It still is and as technology has progressed I’ve kept re-training and am now part of a team making 2D maps come to life as 3D models.
As well as being passionate about geology, maps and science communication I’m also into crafts so if you need a knitted dinosaur or some geological bunting I’m your geek.
