Hydrogeological properties and processes

A new Hydrogeophysical Research Laboratory (HRL) has been established in BGS to house a flow tank facility. The HRL is situated at ground floor level immediately adjacent to a loading bay area; the ground floor location was selected to overcome loading restrictions imposed on upper floor rooms due to the heavy weight of the sand filled tank and to allow direct access by forklifts for the delivery and unloading of sand, clay and gravel. The HRL has been installed with air-conditioning for temperature control during the experiments, and is linked to the BGS LAN so that instrumentation can be controlled remotely and data can be directly transferred to BGS servers.
