BGS Wireline Coring System
The BGS has developed a suite of wireline coring equipment for deployment from drillships equipped to use modified API drillpipe and drillcollars (4” minimum ID). For projects under the auspices of IODP a suite of suitable API drillpipe is also available by arrangement with the US National Science Foundation and Texas A&M University.

The equipment is transported on specially constructed container racks and with containerised spares and workshop. It comprises the following:

  • outer core barrel assembly
  • inner core barrel assemblies
  • piston coring assembly
  • push coring assembly with heavy duty or Shelby tubes
  • extended coring and full face drilling assembly
  • hard rock coring assembly
  • sensor probe assembly
  • Hammer Sampler and Chisel Assembly
