Subsea downpipe camera system
This downpipe camera system was designed to travel down a drill string with an ID (internal diameter) of 100 mm or larger. The sub-sea camera unit also contains a halogen light to allow illumination of the seabed. This camera can be used to asses the seabed conditions before site selection. This has a number of advantages such as reduced environmental impact.

The surface control unit can record digital video that can then be stored on or viewed on any PC. Still images can then be taken from this footage. A video overlay can also be recorded on the screen with sites and locations. The camera was developed for wireline drilling operations on coral reefs, to find locations without living coral, thereby reducing the environmental impact on reefs. It was also used gauge sea-bed conditions prior to spudding and also to inspect the drill string.
