The BGS’s marine operations occupies a purpose built engineering facility located at Loanhead on the outskirts of Edinburgh. This facility is at the full disposal of the science community.
| BGS Marine Operations can be contracted to undertake
a number of different types of project in the marine environment
from inshore and lake operations to deepwater mid-ocean areas. Projects
can vary from simple hire of basic equipment to a full operations
team and vessel. BGS Marine operations undertake both scientific
projects and commercial contracts to carry out marine geophysics
surveys, sea-bed sampling, coring and drilling operations.
The wide range of geophysical surveying and coring equipment available permits a flexible approach to survey requirements. There is a sharp focus on operational requirements in order for the demands of BGS and other international science to be met. Continued research and development is also carried out on equipment to allow a flexible approach to individual projects. Specific research and development is also undertaken to meet individual’s requirements.
