| The airgun system is used to collect medium to high
resolution marine seismic reflection data. This system has been extensively
used over the last 35 years for BGS regional mapping. The aim is
to collect up to 2 sec TWT of data in water depths up to 2500 m.
The system comprises of an array of five small airguns incorporating waveshape kits. The data is collected through a hydrophone and recorded in a standard format to be processed and analysed using BGS Landmark workstations. Since 1991 this system has collected many thousands of line km of data west of Scotland extending to Hatton Bank. It has also been used several times with the British Antarctic Survey for mapping in Antarctica. The simplicity of deployment has meant that it is more effective in ice covered waters than larger, more complex airgun systems. |
