Scientists from the British Geological Survey took to the air on June 26 2007 in the aftermath of the flooding to find out how modern flooding compares to ancient flood areas. Dr Andrew Howard and scientific photographer Paul Witney observed flooding from 600 m (2000 ft) as they flew over the worst affected areas around Nottingham, Sheffield Doncaster and Hull.
