The work of the continental margins team links the seabed and the subsurface and focuses on understanding the development of the north-east Atlantic Margin. Much of this research is undertaken with the support of the oil industry through consortia, including the Rockall Project and the Faroe-Shetland Basin project. New regional guides will be published for both the Rockall area and the Faroe-Shetland Basin. The latter is a joint venture with our colleagues in Jarðfeingi, the Faroes Geological Survey. A key area aspect is the history of deformation since the onset of ocean spreading in the north Atlantic and the links between tectonics, ocean circulation and climate change. We have developed a regional model of the structure of the margin through the Passive Margin Modelling Project
