Annual Information Products seminar – January 2010

On 19 January 2010 BGS held its annual Information Products seminar. The day-long event of talks, open discussions and short presentations offered an opportunity to showcase new research developments within the programme and initiate ideas for future research.

More than 60 people attended the seminar at BGS Keyworth. Topics discussed included the implications of a Freemium business model within BGS following the launch of OpenGeoScience in December 2009.

Other activities

Also on the agenda were improvements to the GeoSure processing methodology using PythonTM scripting and how the BGS might incorporate risk and vulnerability into some of our spatial data products.

Improvements to spatial data best practice were also discussed alongside methods for conveying confidence in our digital products through techniques such as Expert Elicitation.

Later in the day snippets of information about OneGeology, the BGS product lifecycle, 3D-DiGMapGB, webservice delivery of key datasets, the year ahead, positional accuracy improvements and Feature Manipulation Engine were presented in unrehearsed three-minute soapbox presentations (video below).
