UK baseline study results

Between 1999 and 2005 British Geological Survey (BGS) and the Environment Agency (EA) undertook a collaborative project called The Natural (Baseline) Quality of Groundwaters in England and Wales or more simply the Baseline project. The project investigated the baseline quality of groundwater in aquifers or aquifer blocks in 23 study areas producing a report on each area as well as a report that synthesised all the results. More information on the baseline study is available here.

Project reports

The collaborative project is now complete and all the reports for the 23 study areas are available below or can also be accessed from the Baseline chemistry report series pages of the website.
