January 2008. Version 2.0 released. Coverage extended to include whole of North Sea.
November 2005. The Flemish Hydrography (Vlaamse Hydrografie) have agreed to make their data available in the Southern North Sea Sector of DigBath250. We are currently awaiting the final sign off of all licensors who have provided data. We hope to make the complete North Sea sectors available early in 2006. This extended North Sea Sectors dataset will be known as Version II of DigBath250. The extended North Sea coverage is shown in the proposed coverage of DigBath250 figure at the top of this web page. November 2004. An agreement has been signed with the Netherlands Hydrographic Office to include bathymetric contour data for the Dutch waters of the North Sea within DigBath250. The Dutch data will be included in the Southern North Sea sector. This is the last dataset for compilation in the North Sea sectors of DigBath250.
We have compiled bathymetric data for Belgian waters from the Belgian Hydrographic Office and we are hoping to conclude an agreement with them in the next few months.
September 2004. UKHO, the Norwegian Hydrographic Service and the Royal Danish Administration of Navigation and Hydrography – Farvandsvæsenet have confirmed that Version 2 of the Northern North Sea sector can be released subject to completion of the metadata to accompany the data. The area of the North Sea covered by Version 2 can be seen in the proposed coverage diagram at the top of this web page.
Version 2 of the Southern North Sea sector has been compiled except for Dutch waters. We hope to sign an agreement with the Netherlands Hydrographic Office within the next few weeks. This will enable us to complete the compilation for the whole of the North Sea.
March 2004. Version 2 of the Northern North Sea sector covering UK, Norwegian and Danish waters has been compiled. It has been sent to the UKHO, Norwegian Hydrographic Service and the Royal Danish Administration of Navigation and Hydrography – Farvandsvæsenet for confirmation to release the compiled sector.
September 2003. To meet requests for sample data of DigBath250 from potential licensees, BGS has created a sample dataset, which can be downloaded from the DigBath250 website. The sample dataset area is within UK waters and is off the north west tip of Scotland. The sample data is available under trial licence conditions in two GIS formats, MapInfo and ArcView. Further details can be found in the Download Sample Data section of the DigBath250 website.
June 2003. An agreement has been signed with the Royal Danish Administration of Navigation and Hydrography - Farvandsvæsenet to include bathymetric contour data for Danish waters of the North Sea within DigBath250. The Danish data will be included in both the Northern and Southern North Sea sectors of DigBath250.
April 2003. An agreement has been signed with the Bundesamt fur Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie - BSH (German Hydrographic Office) to include bathymetric contour data for the German waters of the North Sea within DigBath250. The German data will be included in the Southern North Sea sector of DigBath250.
Currently Norwegian data is being compiled by BGS for the Northern North Sea sector and will be integrated with UK and Danish data in the coming months. An agreement to include Danish data in DigBath250 should be concluded by the end of June.
December 2002. The British Geological Survey has released Version 1.0 of DigBath250. Its coverage is the whole of the UK continental shelf and slope and adjacent Irish waters in the Irish and Celtic Seas. The DigBath250 website was extensively updated for the release of Version 1.0. Later versions of DigBath250 are planned to include other adjacent European waters and extend coverage to the whole North Sea, English Channel and South West Approaches.
November 2002. An agreement was signed on the 27th November 2002 between BGS and the Norwegian Hydrographic Service with regard to the incorporation of Norwegian bathymetric data into DigBath250. Norwegian waters cover almost half of the Northern North Sea sector. Negotiations with Danish authorities are at an advanced stage and when concluded the Northern North Sea sector can be completed for publication.
July 2002. During the past nine months the relevant European hydrographic and geological authorities for France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Ireland have been approached with regard to participation in DigBath250. The majority have agreed in principle to make bathymetric data available to DigBath250 and negotiations are continuing. We have not been able to complete and sign agreements with the relevant European authorities in time to meet the original roll out of DigBath250 at the end of August 2002.
Presently no definitive date can be given for the availability of DigBath250 with complete coverage of UK and adjacent European waters. However, a version of DigBath250 which only includes bathymetric data for UK waters and those adjacent European waters where agreements have been signed, will be available for sale from the 30th November 2002. Details of available coverage will be posted on this website prior to this date.
September 2001. An agreement to produce DigBath250 was signed by BGS (NERC) and the UK Hydrographic Office on the 20th August. 2001. DigBath250 is included in the UKHO stand (F22) at the GIS2001 Exhibition and Conference at Earls Court, London from the 18th to 20th September 2001.
