The Quarry or Not? 2009 event will be held at the BGS on the 30th June . This event is aimed at raising awareness of environmental science and economic issues related to minerals extraction among schools and the general public. Sixth form students from across the East Midlands will take part, acting as different stakeholders in a simulated mineral planning process concluding in a planning inquiry.

Invite to the University of Edinburgh's North Sea Region Carbon Storage workshop.

BGS is a member of the Scottish Centre for Carbon Storage along with Heriot-Watt University and University of Edinburgh. BGS led, managed and delivered the study and was the lead contractor on the assessment of sources and geological stores.

BGS are at this key environmental event at the NEC, Birmingham, which is divided into five industry-based exhibitions which cover some of the leading issues including the energy crisis, environmental processes and water supply

The BGS will be holding a two day Medical Geology meeting on the 19-21 March at the BGS offices in Nottingham, UK. The meeting is aimed at raising the profile of Medical Geology, with particular emphasis on Practical Applications. We would like to invite abstract submissions for oral or poster presentations. We have agreement to publish original research papers coming from the conference in a special issue of the Environmental Geochemistry and Health Journal. Submissions of interest for attendance and/or poster/oral presentations, including contact details, will be required before January 9th 2009.
