There really is gold in those hills - enough for a king's ransom. Scotgold Resources Ltd has just been given planning permission to open Scotland's first gold mine since gold was mined 500 years ago at Leadhills to make the Scottish crown jewels...research being undertaken at the University of Leicester, in conjunction with Scotgold Resources and in collaboration with researchers at Aberdeen and Glasgow Universities and the British Geological Survey, will be key to finding the next gold mine.

September saw a continuation of the marked spatial variation in rainfall across the UK which has been featured throughout 2011. The lowest monthly rainfall totals coincided with those areas for which long-term rainfall deficiencies were already substantial. There was, therefore, little amelioration of drought conditions in affected areas of England...operated by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology in conjunction with the British Geological Survey.

He estimated that about 100,000 tonnes of rock had fallen into the sea... "You get something like this once every five years maybe. The chances of catching this on video are incredibly slim: I suspect the cameraman must have noticed something.
