Come along and find out about the cool research our scientists do, and get hands-on with robots, sea creatures, microscopes and more!

There will be tours of the marine operations workshop where our White Ribbon catamaran and rock drills are maintained when they’re not out surveying the seas.

Also, information about geomagnetism, thermal rock imaging, maps and apps, seismology and volcanology and visits to our core store.

There will be activities such as gold panning, making a quake and making a flour volcano! As well as a visit from Barnie the dino!

There will also be tours of Heriot-Watt's underwater exploration workshops and a chance to visit our new robotic assisted living lab!

  • 14:00: Siobhan Duncan (Heriot-Watt) How can insects influence technology
  • 15:00: Martin Smith (BGS): Official Development Assistance
  • 16:00: Sam Engwell (BGS): The science behind volcanoes
