SYSMIN - Introduction
horizontal line

An airborne geophysical survey (project: 7acp/mli/117-SYSMIN), involving magnetics, gamma spectrometry and electromagnetics, was conducted in 2001/2002 over the whole Birimian area (covering the southwestern parts of the country). About 253,000 line km for the magnetics and spectrometry surveys were flown in 2001 at a height of 80 m, and 24,800 line km was flown during 2002 for an electromagnetics survey (at a height of 120 m using the Geotem system). The data is available in 50 CDs, and printed maps are also available.

In 2003-2005, a geological mapping survey was conducted over the same Birimian area. The survey scale was 1/200,000, and the data are available in three DVDs. In 2005-2006, a geological mapping survey was conducted over the Western Sahel of Mali. This data are available on a single DVD.

All these data are integrated in DNGM's GIS system, which will be available soon on the internet.

For the future, the SYSMIN project will be conducting surveys related to kimberlite research in the southern part of the Birimian, geological mapping of the Gourma (northeastern part of the country), and developing deposits of kaolin, pegmatites, gypsum etc.
