Westerhouse Sandstone Member

Computer Code: WESS Preferred Map Code: notEntered
Status Code: Full
Age range: Selandian Age (GS) — Selandian Age (GS)
Lithological Description: The Westerhouse Sandstone Member consists of a succession of discrete sandstone and mudstone units, producing a distinctly serrated appearance on wireline logs. Bed thicknesses as recorded on wireline logs are mostly between one and five metres thick, but reach 10 to 15 m thick in some instances. A cored section from the middle of the Westerhouse Member in well 214/27-2 shows a succession of mostly medium grained, well sorted, pale grey to grey-green sandstones separated by thin, grey claystones, silty micaceous mudstones and siltstones. The sandstones display little internal structure, but show crude vertical normal grading within the sand fraction and concentrations of mudstone clasts in the upper part of some units. The sandstones display varying degrees of cementation by calcite, reflected in the spiky sonic log signature.
