Lithological Description: Orange-brown to purplish brown gritty clay with scattered angular to subrounded culm sandstone fragments; locally clayey gravel. The clay matrix consists of angular fragments of weathered shale forming a "shale paste".
Definition of Lower Boundary: Probably rests on weathered Crackington Formation; outcrops mainly fault-bounded.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Not seen.
Thickness: At least 10m
Geographical Limits: Restricted to small area west of Clyst Hydon, Devon, and to a small outcrop around Chapelhaies Farm (SS 973 052), Bradninch, Devon.
