Lithological Description: Dominantly thick, massive bedded, well sorted, medium-grained sandstone, with some thin, dark grey mudstone interbeds.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Taken at the lithological change from mudstones of the Tarn Moor Formation, to a dominantly sandstone succession.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Not seen, but presumed to be overlain unconformably by the Borrowdale Volcanic Group.
Thickness: At least 200 m thick.
Geographical Limits: The Bampton Inlier of the Skiddaw Group, west of Shap, Cumbria.
