Lithological Description: Medium to thick beds (1-4m) of fine- to medium-grained sandstone, thickening and coarsening upwards with thin interbedded grey mudstone and siltstone.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Faulted out: lower part of sequence adjacent to fault is transitional to slaty mudstone, thin sandstone beds and sporadic thin limestone beds of the Bovisand Formation.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Faulted out: Staddon Formation thrust over Saltash Formation.
Thickness: c.500m
Geographical Limits: Staddon Grit Formation mapped on Plymouth (348) Sheet. Known to occur between north Cornwall coast at Trenance Point and south Devon coast south of Berry Head.
