Lithological Description: Semipelite with pelite and psammite (including greywacke) with subordinate quartzite, amphibolite, calc-silicate rocks and rare limestones. The calc-silicate rocks and limestones are characteristic.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Top of Aberdeen Formation, where dominantly psammitic and semipelitic lithologies pass up into lithologies dominated by semipelite but including psammite and pelite, greywacke, grits, calc-silicates and some limestones.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Incoming of lithologies dominated by psammites, greywackes and grits, but including conglomerates and very rare thin calc-silicate layers.
Thickness: Not known.
Geographical Limits: Eastern parts of Aberdeenshire between the eastern margin of the Insch Basic Intrusion and the eastern margin of the Strichen Granite.
